MARIA SOCORRO “SOCORRITO” GARCIA

Funeral Services for Maria Socorro “Socorrito” Garcia, 91, of Brownfield, will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father John Ohlig officiating. Viewing will be held from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Brownfield Funeral Home, with Rosary at 6:00 pm. Maria was born in El Roy, TX, on November 3, 1932, to Felipe and Hilaria (Santiago) Miranda. Her family would come to Brownfield during the migrant farming seasons and eventually stayed here. At first, she didn’t like it because of the sand storms, but she stayed, and it became her home. She met the love of her life, Ruben Garcia, and they were married in 1950. They spent 42 years together before his passing in 1992. Described by her family as a “living saint,” Maria possessed a gentle spirit and a servant’s heart that touched the lives of everyone she met. Her love for gardening, sewing, and reading her Bible brought her endless joy, and her passion for music filled her home with warmth and comfort. She was a lifelong member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with membership in Las Guadalupanas, Cursillistas, Grupo de Misericordia. She also taught educational classes and sang in the church choir. Throughout her life, Maria found solace in her faith and was a pillar of strength for her loved ones. She cherished her moments spent conversing with friends and relatives on the phone, always eager to offer a listening ear and a comforting presence. Along with her foundation of faith, she was rooted in the love of her family. Maria is preceded in death by her parents, Felipe and Hilaria; her husband Ruben; a daughter, Rosalinda Garcia; three sons, Rodolfo Garcia, Ramiro Garcia, and Ruben M. Garcia, Jr.; five brothers, Nasario, Manuel, Bartolo, Antonio, and Luis; two sisters, Juanita and Nicolasa; and her great-grandson, Gabriel Elijah Marez. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Laurencia Holguin and husband, George; brother, Merardo - Lalo Miranda; daughter -inlaw, Flora Garcia; 5 grandsons, Johnny, Ruben, Sandy, Matthew, and Jesse; four granddaughters, Nicole, Elizabeth, Pilar, and Victoria; 18 greatgrandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
