Broncos and Lady Broncos represent Meadow at Regional UIL

Several Meadow High School students traveled to South Plains College last Friday to compete in the Regional UIL competition. The Broncos and Lady Broncos shined and even had three students qualify for the state competition. Melony Franco placed fifth in the Computer Application category, followed by Ebony Franco, who secured a sixth-place finish. Dylan Paiva placed sixth in the Informative Speaking category. The Meadow Computer Science team, consisting of Kyler Woodard, Andrea Fraire, Addison Garcia and Logan Castaneda, finished second overall as a team. Woodard secured a second-place finish to become one of the three students to qualify for the state competition. Ryder Day led Meadow with a secondplace finish in the Lincoln Douglas Debate, followed by Paiva, who placed fourth. Ryder Day’s second-place finish earned him a trip to the state competition. Meadow’s Literary Criticism team, consisting of Malarie Cardenas, Alissa Simental, Jaycee Cruz and Kyren Howard, placed third overall. Kate Smith placed third in Poetry Interpretation. Smith’s third-place finish qualified her for the state competition. The Meadow Speechg team placed third overall. Overall, the Meadow teams placed seventh in the School Sweepstakes.

District-Wide Safety Project Begins Next Week

The Texas Department of Transportation is ready to begin work next week on a $1.63 million safety project to install reflective pavement markers (RPMs) to various roads in all the Lubbock District’s 17-county service area: Bailey, Castro, Cochran, Crosby, Dawson, Gaines, Garza, Floyd, Hale, Hockley, Lamb, Lubbock, Lynn, Parmer, Swisher, Terry, and Yoakum counties.

Council Hears Update from Local Department Heads

The Brownfield City Council met Thursday morning for their regularly scheduled meeting to discuss several items on the agenda, most notably awarding the Lifesaving Award to Alex Llamas. Council members Kelli Mendez, J.C. Tijerina, Leon Pope, Marshall Martell, Mark Williams and Jimmy Garza were all present on the quorum, along with City Manager Jeff Davis, City Secretary Kelly Burris, City Attorney Matt Wade and Mayor Tom Hesse. Celso Duran was not Following the Invocation and pledges, the council approved the minutes from the previous meeting.
